Best 2021 Emmy Awards red carpet looks

The return of award-winning red carpet fashion

The Primetime Emmy Awards — and like many award ceremonies this season — made its return to the live-in-studio format for its 2021 edition. While that didn’t really impact much on the fashion front during last year’s show (nominees still managed to dress for the occasion remotely), the energy hit differently when all manner of fashion walked an actual red carpet before celebrities made their way into the L.A. Live complex.

The men showed up in suiting, ranging from the more traditional three-piece in head-to-toe black (like William H. Macy’s slim-cut Dolce&Gabbana) to more contemporary stylings as exemplified by newly announced Emmy winner Josh O’Connor’s custom Loewe look. Others made use of the opportunity to inject pops of colours in their suiting choices with Kenan Thompson’s all-pink number leading the charge.

Fashion highlights courtesy of the ladies, included Anya Taylor-Joy’s brilliant gold Dior Haute Couture ensemble as well as Nicole Byer’s statement Christian Siriano creation. But it was definitely Michael Coel (also a new Emmy winner) and her neon Christopher John Rogers dress that set the red carpet ablaze — easily the best look of the entire night.
