Welcome to the new normal. That is, if you’re vaccinated. Now that dining out and heading to the gym is permissible, it’s safe to say that there’s plenty of exciting stuff coming up. To spice up your weekend, we’ve gathered some things that you can do both online or offline. This week, get a taste of Japan, treat yourself to an activity-filled staycation and more.

WATCH | Perspectives Film Festival 2021

Back again for its 14th year, Perspective Film Festival explores mind-blowing moments in film that just makes you go “What the?”. Running from 21 to 31 October, the festival will be screening nine carefully curated films in a hybrid format. Never truly been into film festivals? Well this may be a fantastic stepping stone into the wonderful sphere. The team has put together a lineup that caters to a diverse audience—from documentary lovers, to musical geeks, to dramatic film fanatics. There’ll definitely be something that will catch your fancy.

VISIT | Japan Rail Fair

Though Japan may not be added into the list of countries that Singapore has a VTL with, you can still savour a little of what Japan has to offer in this virtual gateway. Back for its second year following the success of its debut event, Japan Rail Cafe is hosting yet another Japan Rail Fair. We’re talking a combination of free and ticketed live programmes comprising interactive seminars and activities revolving around Japan travel, food and culture. Catch the last day of the fair on 23 October.

WATCH | SG Horticulture Show

If you missed the first leg of the show, you can still catch the last segment as it runs until to 31 October. Located at Jurong Lake Gardens, visitors will be able to enjoy displays from shows such as the Vertical Greenery Competition, which features stunning creations of 36sqm each designed by professionals from Singapore’s landscape industry. Or, you can simply seek inspiration to makeover your balcony from Balcony Garden competitions that feature the most magical garden retreats.

STAY | SG Hotel on Wheels (SHOW)

This weekend, treat yourself to a novelty stay in Singapore’s first ever roving container hotel at Downtown East. The resort-style staycation features a total of 10 containers each completely revamped and designed as themed rooms. With choices like Safari Paradise, Peranakan Suite, Street Punk, Retro Mambo and Minimalist Classic, there’s definitely something for everyone. What’s more, booking a stay with them will get you complimentary passes to Wild Wild Wet, and if you’re still a bundle of energy after a day of water fun, there are also creative art installations and experiential workshops right next door to give you a fun-filled staycation and breathe back some life into our work-weary souls.
