Keep an eye outForgive us, but we once believed that the hallmark of every teen drama series was makeup as elaborate as the various schemes and scandals featured. Pretty Little Liars had 15-year-olds donning smoky eyeshadow and contour at a funeral; Euphoria spearheaded the maximalist makeup movement; while Riverdale has their characters sporting falsies at school, no less. It’s what makes HBO’s rendition of Gossip Girl quite so refreshing. Rather than employ the same tired trope, they’ve opted for a subtle vibe befitting of actual high-schoolers. Think: radiant skin, a touch of gloss, and fuss-free hairstyles achievable without the assistance of a curling iron. Because hey, who has time to primp excessively when you’re too busy picketing for fair working conditions, right?
