Get ready for a great party, Singapore!

As Andy Warhol once said, “Studio 54” is a dictatorship at the door and a democracy on the dance floor.” New York’s most legendary club had only one rule: “Anyone who was allowed in was totally free inside.” You can now feel this free spirit of Studio 54 in Singapore! ’The New York Secret’ by Secret Theatre will transport you to neon-lit dance floor of the iconic club.

It’s called “Secret Theater”, but here’s the twist — this ain’t your ordinary theatre experience. Oh no! You won’t be sitting back and watching the show. Nope, you’ll be smack dab in the middle of it, mingling with celebrities from the era, as if you’ve stumbled into a time warp straight to Studio 54. Greeted by David Bowie, you’ll be rubbing shoulders with John Travolta and Elton John on the dance floor, exploring the secret VIP rooms and taking selfies with Andy Warhol.

Warhol, Elton John, Truman Capote, Diana Ross, Jacqueline Kennedy and Cher were all among its regulars, but Studio 54 was more than a celebrity hotspot. It was an ‘absolute dream’ and a ‘sociological phenomenon’. Looking back on the glory years of Studio 54, it’s co-founder Ian Schrager was reflecting on its success in one of the interviews: “There were people who weren’t even born yet who want to know what it was like to be a part of that”. ‘The New York Secret’ gives you that chance to find out what it was like.

A Glimpse into the Glamorous World of Studio 54

‘The New York Secret’ show starts from the moment you visit the website. The location? Well, that’s a secret. You’ll only find out when you get your ticket. Any questions? You can contact David Bowie straight away and get involved in the show!  The venue, story plot and password to the secret world will be unveiled.

Secret Theatre, founded by globally renowned actor-director Richard Crawford in 2008, is a UK-based immersive theatre production company that pushes the boundaries of theatrical and music performances. It beckons audiences to a completely immersive theatrical world, where they become part of the show. It’s not the first time they perform in Singapore.

“Secret Theatre has travelled all over the world, but our 2019 show in Singapore remains my favourite. It’s exciting to return with a production that’s close to my heart, depicting an era that we may never see again. We can’t wait to get the city on the guest list to experience the most scandalous night that ever happened,” Crawford shares.

Award-winning cast

The production features an award-winning cast: Los Angeles-based performers Mia Ortega, who recently played Nala in The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands in Paris and Cameron Mills; London-based performers Owen Richardson, Samantha Carrie-Smith, Charles Duke, Alaistair Goldie – who starred in productions with Warner Brothers and Walt Disney Company, and Konrad Kuc, who has performed in several stage and film productions in Singapore.

So dust off those shoulder pads, tease up hair, and get ready to boogie the night away at ‘The New York Secret.’
