5 feminine watches from sweet pink to fire-engine red
There are a few ways to instantly tune up your look from "yeah it's alright" to "va-va-voom" and wearing red is one of them. It's not called the colour of passion and desire for no reason. Now other than red lipstick or stilettos, how about a red timepiece?
As V-day draws near — and CNY too — these five watch brands have each crafted a special piece for the occasion, projecting a crimson spectrum of pretty pinks and ruby reds. Wear your heart on your sleeve? Make that your wrist.
1. Breguet Classique Phase de Lune Dame 9085
What better way to express your appreciation of fine mechanics with fine aesthetics than with a Breguet Classique. Better yet, make it a Classique Phase de Lune Dame 9085 like this one, dressed elegantly in light pink. This 30mm watch is one of the daintiest in the collection and Breguet has selected white gold as its case material.
Adorned with subtly graded shades of diamonds and pink sapphires, the bezel shimmers with unrivalled sparkle. Its mother-of-pearl dial also glistens according to the reflection of light and the lacquered pink moon phase display bears a pink mother-of-pearl heart. Inside, the self-winding Calibre 537L takes the watch through 45-hours of uninterrupted power reserve.
2. Glashutte Original PanoMatic Luna
Saccharine sweet and unabashedly so, this new PanoMatic Luna by German manufacture Glashutte Original was made expressly for V-day – although, any day is a great day to wear pink (if you're a fan of the colour). Here, a delicate pink mother-of-pearl dial evokes fantasies of soft rose-coloured clouds while carefully studded diamonds bring a touch of glamour.
Glashutte Original's signature Panorama Date display prominently displays the date on two separate discs and above it, a moon phase indicator in a rather unusual location. Perfectly matched to its cotton-candy pink alligator strap, this watch balances mechanical complexity with whimsical gaiety. The only downside is you've got to go to China to buy it, because it's an exclusive piece for that region.
3. Blancpain Saint-Valentin 2018
With a strong collection of feminine complicated and classic timepieces, Blancpain never forgets its women clientele and the new Saint-Valentin 2018 is proof of that. This watch may have a simple round case but its dial is where all the fun and creativity lie. Once again, the manufacture reprises the moon phase complication with its trademark feminine moon which comes with gorgeous long eyelashes and a coquettish beauty spot.
The white mother-of-pearl dial is studded all over with diamonds and rubies, as if it were a scene from the sky where puffy clouds and sparkling stars commingle. Another playful touch is the running seconds hand shaped like Cupid's arrow - how many fun games could be had with this delightful feature? More diamonds are set onto the bezel and lugs while a red alligator leather strap completes the ensemble.
4. Franck Muller Crazy Hours 15th Anniversary Asian Exclusive
Different couples live and love differently. This V-day, Franck Muller has something for the ones who are crazy in love and are looking for couple watches that are just as crazy. The Crazy Hours is Franck Muller's icon and it doesn't follow the standard path of time-telling.
The numbers are all in disarray and the hands appear not to abide by the rules of time, only, it does, thanks to a clever internal mechanism that directs the hour hand to the correct number every single time. Its universal appeal suits men as much as women, even with diamonds all over the case. This exclusive pair, with a silver or black dial, dons a set of alligator leather straps in bright chilli red, while the numbers are coloured in the same hue. You know what they say: couples who get crazy together stay together.
5. Jaquet Droz Petite Heure Minute Cuprite
Stone dials are something of a specialty at Jaquet Droz and the manufacture has an uncanny ability to find the most perfect minerals for all occasions. Case in point: The Petite Heure Minute Cuprite makes for a striking timepiece to wear on both V-day and CNY. That dazzling red dial is almost hypnotic in its beauty.
It is said that cuprite helps to keep stress at bay and is a good protector against negative energy, so some people keep it around the house and at work. Yet it is extremely delicate and prone to crumbling, so Jaquet Droz's master craftsmen clearly didn't have an easy time with it. Sourced from Mexico, the cuprite dial is juxtaposed against a mother-of-pearl hour and minute counter and accentuated with a ring of diamonds on the bezel and a red alligator leather strap.
