Peace be with you

The Mindful Company’s Places of Calm jewellery collection is one part meditative reminder and one part tribute to Singapore on its 53rd birthday

Taking time out to smell the flowers is the last thing on the priority thing for us beleaguered city-dwellers, but The Mindful Company will have you know that attaining mental tranquility is as simple as appreciating the greenery of our island. Inspired by the flora and fauna of Singapore, the homegrown brand seeks to encourage peace of mind by re-creating the Ruffled Fan Palm, Bougainvillea, Elephant's Ear, and Singapore Kopsia — four species of plant life indigenous to the Little Red Dot — into delicate jewellery pieces to enable wearers a distinctive way of finding their inner calm while simultaneously remembering our garden city.

Consisting of nine pieces designed for everyday wear, the Singapore-focused collection features earring, necklaces and bracelets in either 14K gold-plated sterling silver, 18K rose gold-plated sterling silver, and sterling silver, decorated with semi-precious pearls and stones. Each of flora motif is distinctly recognisable; the fan palm are a common sight along streets and roadsides, the bougainvillea hails from the Bougainvillea Garden at East Coast Park, the Elephant's Ear is a common fixture at neighbourhood parks, and the Singapore Kopsia is a native of Nee Soon Swamp Forest, a critically endangered plant that can only be found in our country.

Said Ciara Yeo, co-founder of The Mindful Company: "This is one of the most important collections we have designed. We wanted to create something that would showcase The Mindful Company's Singaporean roots, which was why we sought to craft this collection. Staying true to our philosophy, it is important for us to conceptualise pieces that serve as simple, yet beautiful reminders."

Obviously, just plainly looking at your jewellery isn't going to do the trick if you're looking to centre your mind. To truly aid you in seeking calm, The Mindful Company has even worked with renowned local poet Pooja Nansi to spin a special, two-minute spoken word poem (also titled Places of Calm) to supplement your Zen-finding process. It's a call to action that urges you to care for yourself when your state of mind gets too chaotic, with your flora-inspired jewellery reminding you to look beyond the skyscrapers for the pockets of natural beauty surrounding Singapore as your meditative medium. So stop and stare at the foliage every now and again — your mind will thank you for it.

The Places of Calm collection is available at Tangs at Tangs Plaza and online
