Rado teams up with interior designer Sam Amoia for a limited edition True Blaze
Glitz and glam
Taking the axiom 'the path less ventured' as a working motto has seen Rado teaming up with acclaimed industrial designer Konstantin Grcic, and now the Swiss watchmaker is exploring a different avenue — that of interior design with Sam Amoia. A collaboration that sees the aesthetics of both parties seamlessly integrated into a singular timepiece, the True Blaze is one part high-tech Rado plasma ceramic and another the signature sculptural style of Amoia.
Resembling a glitter explosion at a glance, the Rado True Blaze sports a sizeable 40mm dial fully embellished with metallic silvers — a textural surface that's more complicated than it looks, requiring a galvanic technique in order to create a crystalline-like appearance akin to diamond powder. Practically a disco ball for the wrist, those familiar with the sought-after designer's work will know the unique dial is purely Amoia, branded with his nature and material-inspired aesthetic. Every angle of the True Blaze recalls the same tactility found in his signature interior designs where Amoia layers plaster and cement with semi-precious stones.
"I wanted to create a simple but innovative piece. Something that reflects my aesthetic and personal design philosophy," states Amoia, speaking about the inspiration behind the watch. "The result is an understated and innovative piece. Not of the traditional canon of watches but something more interesting and special, yet simple and timeless."
Complemented by yellow gold indexes that are inked on the underside of its metallised sapphire crystal glass to create a surprisingly airy look, the Rado True Blaze is one that perfectly toes the line between ostentatious and streamlined.
The True Blaze is available at Rado boutiques, limited to 1001 pieces.
