Behold the Roger Dubuis Velvet Caviar, the latest in horology haute couture to strut down the runway
The Roger Dubuis woman is a diva, and she isn't settling for anything less than superlative glamour. For her, the Haute Couture collection is a crossover of traditional artisan skills meets avant-garde modernism that's contemporary and seductive femininity to a T... as every lady who loves beautiful shiny things will know (the Black Velvet with Diamonds, anyone?). And now the extravagance just got bumped up several notches with the new Velvet Caviar watches.
From its case to its straps, everything is splendidly stunning as mother-of-pearl dials flaunt a multi-faceted glimmer, surrounded by brilliant-cut diamonds studded along the bezel and lugs (a design element that's undeniably Roger Dubuis Diva), and of course, the caviar lookalikes that are countless miniscule crystal marbles embellishing the straps. Opulent flourishes that add onto the diva aesthetic, these richly feminine timepieces are as strong as they are sophisticated, created with the maison's cutting-edge expertise in working with disruptive materials — most notably from its novelties at SIHH 2018 where they've collaborated with the world of motorsports. Leveraging this technical skill for the Velvet Caviar collection, Roger Dubuis has transformed a polymer into a rubber-lined molten material sprinkled with what they've termed 'spangled dust', resulting in a light-reflecting finish after it hardens and sets to produce straps that closely resemble fabric but actually isn't at all.
Gussied up in palettes of black or silver to suit every occasion and diva mood, these glamourous timekeepers are mechanically powered by the automatic RD830 calibre so they're not just strikingly attractive, they've got the movement to go along with their beauty. This is how you sparkle like a superstar, ladies.
