Montblanc donates a one-of-a-kind 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter to Only Watch 2017
Hailing from the '30s and dressed in bronze and green is a one-off Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter, repping the Swiss maison at this year's Only Watch auction. Inspired by the famous Minerva timepieces from the era, this extremely limited edition watch bears a prestigious heft as it takes the auction stand, with a make that also pays tribute to a Blue Limited Edition version of the 1858 Chrongraph Tachymeter — the timepiece that snagged the Grand Prix d'horlogerie best chronograph prize in 2016.
Equipped with a traditional manual monopusher chronograph movement, the Montblanc manufacture calibre MB M16.29, the watch works a vintage aesthetic that includes large cathedral hands with cloisonné design and a classic minute railway track on a green dial. This colour combination of emerald — on the watch face and the alligator straps — with a distinct bronze frame comes from design details taken from an original 1930s' Minerva chronograph, and even has historical typography displaying the Montblanc logo and emblem from the time period. Certainly worthy of the Only Watch cause highlighting Duchenne muscular dystrophy, this is classic and timeless Montblanc cast in a contemporary light that collectors can vie for in the name of charity.
The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter Only Watch Unique Piece goes on auction on 11 November online.
