Met Gala 2019: All the best jewellery looks on the red carpet

Let’s Get Loud

There’s just no room for subtlety when the dress code says camp

Red carpet events are always glamorous, but the Met Gala is a whole nother level of intensity. Despite that, this year's theme Camp: Notes on Fashion managed to blow everything out of the water, beginning with Lady Gaga's outrageously billowing fuchsia dress that needed four men to carry – and that's not even the craziest look of the night.

While fashion brands are the ones to decide what the celebrities will wear for the night, jewellery brands are a little more egalitarian. The latter works with celebrities who are either ambassadors or friends of the brand, who choose the pieces they like. In other words, brands have their favourites and like to spoil them. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, most celebrities usually stick to their jeweller of choice. Julianne Moore, for instance, champions the Chopard Green Carpet and Fairmined Gold collections.

Tiffany & Co.

Lady Gaga is the official ambassador of Tiffany & Co., repping the American jeweller's HardWear collection when it was launched in 2018. At the gala, she was covered in Tiffany & Co. jewels, most prominent of all, the yellow gold butterfly necklace with diamonds from the Tiffany Blue Book Collection. Gaga also wore several high jewellery rings including a Tiffany True ring in platinum with diamond solitaire worth US$1,165,000.

Other stars wearing Tiffany & Co. include Wonder Woman Gal Gadot and highest-paid model in the world, Kendall Jenner.

The Bulgari posse was dressed in a combination of the Italian jeweller's heritage pieces and latest high jewellery. Brand ambassadors Lily Aldridge and Laura Harrier mixed and matched different collections, as did Naomi Campbell and Lupita Nyong'o.

Crazy Rich Asians star Awkwafina also wore Bulgari, as did Hailey Bieber and Miley Cyrus.

Priyanka Chopra rocked a full suite of Chopard high jewellery from the Copacabana collection plus three Happy Diamonds pendant necklaces and multiple bracelets from the Haute Joaillerie collection.

Her beau Nick Jonas also went with Chopard jewels and we gotta say we really like how progress this Jonas Brothers's taste is. How many men do you know who could pull off classical high jewellery?

Model Amber Valetta was also decked out in Chopard Haute Joaillerie pieces and Alexa Chung, too, wore a number of Chopard high jewellery pieces.

Harry Winston

Celebrities who wore Harry Winston include Jennifer Lopez and husband Alex Rodriguez. Recently engaged Lopez wore a Purple Dragon necklace featuring a 65.32-carat purple sapphire and matched it with diamond rings, bracelets and earrings.

There's also Demi Moore who's looking really good with the Secret Cluster Diamond necklace. Hailee Steinfeld, Lucy Boynton and Nina Dobrev complemented their outfits with the rings and earrings.

Recently making all her red carpet appearances with Cartier jewellery, Lily Collins modelled the magnificent Cartier Magnitude high jewellery necklace featuring emeralds, rock crystal, onyx, black lacquer and diamonds.

Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malek walked the red carpet with a Panthère de Cartier brooch with emeralds, onyx, and diamonds.

Her sister didn't show but Solange Knowles did her best to make up for Queen Bey's absence with her full python skin get-up by Salvatore Ferragamo and jewels by Piaget.

Another star who's frequently seen in Piaget is Michael B Jordan who wore a Piaget Altiplano watch and a white gold Possession ring.

Contributing editor of Vogue Thailand Nichapat Suphap was the first Thai person to attend the Met. She wore a rainbow-hued Peter Dundas dress and accessorised with a colourful Piaget necklace and earrings.

Best of the Rest

Serena Williams wore jewellery from de Grisogono and an Audemars Piguet watch.

Regina King and Lana Condor wore lab-grown diamonds by Lark & Berry.

Mindy Kaling and Natasha Lyonne chose David Webb.
