High Jewellery Week: Louis Vuitton Riders of the Knights is dedicated to modern heroines
A tribute to the medieval heroines in history and folklore, Louis Vuitton Riders of the Knights is about transcending life's limitations to forge a unique destiny. Joan of Arc. Hua Mulan. Katniss Everdeen... In life and literature, these incredible women have made a lasting mark on the world and shaped the fate of all others that follow. Not everyone can do what they did – indeed, not even they knew it themselves – but through sheer determination and inner strength, and courage, they did. And these are the very values that reflect the Louis Vuitton woman.
Riders of the Knights is the first high jewellery collection by Louis Vuitton's artistic director of watches and jewellery, Francesca Amfitheatrof. The pieces are imagined as a suit of armour made of light, which radiates from the sparkle of precious gemstones.
Comprising three series, Le Royaume, La Cavalière and La Reine, the collection brilliantly expresses the maison's extraordinary vision. In Le Royaume, the refined and architectural lines of a medieval fortress provide the aesthetic cues – think portcullises, chains and drawbridges. La Cavalière and La Reine explore the myths and legends of amulets and weaponry, and the aura of sovereign power.
Maybe you'll be bowled over by the beauty of the stones. Or maybe you'll be entranced by the promise of love, and the medieval codes of chivalry, bravery, luck, foresight and power – everything a queen needs to rule her world.
