Alex Rodriguez proposed, Jennifer Lopez said yes, and her engagement ring is the stuff of dreams

It's official! Jennifer "Jenny From The Block" Lopez is engaged, with a rock, from American former major league baseball player Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez. The news broke Sunday evening when Rodriguez announced on Instagram with a picture of them holding hands and showing off the magnificent emerald cut diamond engagement ring, along with the caption "she said yes."

Rodriguez, 43, popped the question while the couple were vacationing in Baker's Bay, The Bahamas.

Lopez, 49, had also shared the post on her Instagram account, captioning it with eight black hearts. Kourtney Kardashian was the first to comment with a string of emojis. The post has since garnered over four million likes.

Estimated to be worth around US$4.5 million, the engagement ring is a classic emerald-cut solitaire diamond set on platinum. Likely a custom created piece, the stone appears to be between 11 and 15 carats according to diamond experts who also expect it to be of exceptional quality – at least a VS clarity and D colour.

Other Hollywood celebrities who were famously proposed to with emerald-cut diamond engagement rings include Beyonce, Amal Clooney, Elizabeth Taylor and Angelina Jolie.

This ring is of course not the first that J Lo has received. In an episode of Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, she reportedly admitted to have "had some amazing proposals."

In 2004, ex-husband number three, Marc Anthony, proposed with an 8.5-carat blue diamond Harry Winston stunner estimated at that time to have cost US$4 million. But before Anthony, there was Ben Affleck who presented a 6.1-carat pink diamond Harry Winston ring estimated at US$2.5 million, although they never made it to the altar.

Just before that, Lopez was married to Cris Judd and even before that to Ojani Noa. Both men proposed with six-figure rings.
