Sporty sophistication gets a ‘his and her’ pair with Chopard’s Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph
Two to go
Paying tribute to the spirit of endurance racing is Chopard with the new Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph, made to the tune of the illustrious competition with design elements that assert a sporty aesthetic. Queued up at the starting line with a pair of matching his and her timepieces, these sleek machines tap into the thrill and glamour of the Mille Miglia in its heyday, where vintage racecars sped across an open-road track running through the scenic Italian countryside. So inspired by this expression of liberation, the maison has crafted both watches in the likeness of the retro automobiles that took part in the race, equipping the 39mm and 42mm-sized steel cases — the former for the ladies and the latter for the men — with traditional, oversized pushers and fluted crowns.
Coordinated with dials that feature indexes and counters that mirror a 1920s' dashboard, white mother-of-pearl decorates the feminine model while a black watch face fronts the masculine version. And sitting at the centre of both dials are three counters displaying the hours, minutes and seconds at 6, 9 and 3 o'clock respectively, united by the arrow-shaped 'Rossa Corsa' red Mille Miglia logo that perches at the top of this trinity of sub-dials. Further tying the duo to its motoring roots, the straps of the timepieces are made from rubber, cast in the famous Dunlop Racing tire tread — if you couldn't tell from a distance that the Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph is a race watch, this is one surefire visual aid. Powered by a self-winding chronograph calibre under each hood, the highly-precise movement is COSC-certified, driving home the fact that the duo makes the perfect supporting wingman (or woman) for the ladies and gents with a passion for the road.
The Mille Miglia Classic Chronograph collection is available at Chopard boutiques.
