Wish upon a shooting star: The Chanel Comète collection
The universe has always been Coco Chanel's inspirational oyster. From creations based on the majestic lion and her beloved camellia bloom to the seas and sails — and even the architecture of her childhood orphanage, Aubazine Abbey — everything speaks to her. Even the heavens have spurred her artistic sensibilities, as Mademoiselle Chanel plucked stars and comets from the sky for her first jewellery collection, Bijoux de Diamants in 1932.
Now refreshing these motifs for their enchanting yet powerful allure, Chanel presents the new Comète high jewellery collection, re-interpreted with a modern edge that exalts the rock spirit of the house. Themed with a chevron design across the pieces, diamonds take centrestage to replicate the cosmic sparkle of the night skies, while contrasting accents of onyx and black spinels hint at the creative diversity of the house. Like a meteor shower, every piece is a blaze of stars to light up your being, whether it's a choker encircling the neck, a ring on each finger or a trail of stars dangling from the ears. Symbolising beauty, movement and freedom, the irresistible attraction of the Comète collection is acknowledged by Coco herself who quite simply summed up the fascination: "I wanted to cover women with constellations. Stars! Stars of all sizes ..."
