You may not have heard of his name but you've definitely seen Kashiwa Sato's works at least once this week. The Tokyo-based creative director is best known as the designer of Uniqlo's ubiquitous red seal logo and the man behind its global brand communications. He has also led numerous visual art projects for companies across all sectors including pharmaceuticals, museums, food and beverage, beauty, automobiles, home accessories, music and entertainment, and many, many more.

This month, Sato adds timepieces to his staggering repertoire as Casio unveils the new G-Shock DWE-5600KS. Infused with the creative director's signature Lines motif, it follows the opening of the Kashiwa Sato Exhibition at the National Art Center in Tokyo. Why Lines? Sato believes that a perfectly straight line represents a concept that exists only in the human mind, and is the ultimate expression of beauty.

Created since 2017, this is an ever-expanding series of works. Sato continually develops different visuals by changing the thickness and arrangement of the lines. In the Casio G-Shock DWE-5600KS, for instance, the G-Shock's utilitarian aesthetic gets a burst of pop colours delivered in straight blue and white lines on a vivid red watch face. It's definitely a watch you can spot from a mile away, and we haven't even gone to the best part yet.

No we're not talking about the red K that appears when the screen's backlight is turned on. That's cute, of course, but we're referring to the fact that this model comes as a set with two extra interchangeable bands and bezels so you can really have a ball of a time creating your own unique design.

Go crazy with the green, cosy up to the orange, or perhaps let Sato's artistic vision take centre-stage with the colourless option. You could create up to 27 different combinations by switching the bands and bezels around, which is not just great value for money, but so much fun to wear. Priced at $329, it comes in a special box also covered with Sato's Lines motif.

G-SHOCK x Kashiwa Sato, DWE-5600KS-7DR will be available at G-SHOCK stores (except boutiques located in Isetan and Takashimaya), online at g-shock.sg, and Dover Street Market from 27 March 2021.
