Carolina Bucci has designed an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak for the modern woman
If you think you've seen every iteration of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak there is to see, think again. Even today, 46 years since its birth in 1972, this gorgeous horological icon still has not run out of ways to surprise us. The Le Brassus manufacture has just released a new variation that is bound to appeal to the modern woman. This time, however, credit doesn't go to Audemars Piguet alone.
Sharing the glory is the Italian fine jewellery designer, Carolina Bucci, who is also the creative powerhouse behind the revolutionary Royal Oak Frosted Gold first released in 2016. As connoisseurs know all too well, Audemars Piguet is all about traditional values meets design audacity. The Royal Oak Frosted Gold introduced a new technique of material finishing where the surfaces have been covered with tiny indentations yielding a unique effect not unlike ultra-fine diamond dust or freshly fallen snow.
Reprising the partnership once more, this year Bucci releases yet another interpretation of the Royal Oak. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Frosted Gold now comes in yellow gold – previously it was made in pink and white gold. More importantly, the fourth-generation jeweller has replaced the Grande Tapisserie finish, a time-honoured Royal Oak signature, with a perfectly polished mirror dial.
Maybe it's a little sacrilegious if you're being a stickler for tradition but take it from Jasmine Audemars, chairwoman of Audemars Piguet's board of directors: "The creativity behind the Frosted Gold watch is simply amazing. It is both art and a very high level of technology. With Carolina Bucci, we created a kind of masterpiece."
Bucci explains the concept further: "With the first Frosted Gold design, I took the perfection of the Royal Oak case and bracelet and 'roughed them up' a little, juxtaposing the perfectly imperfect Florentine finish with Swiss watchmaking precision. Now I'm doing the opposite, taking the textured surface of the "Tapisserie" dial and flattening it out into a perfectly smooth mirror. The motive for both is to create something interesting and unpredictable. It's a fresh take on an icon made in the image of a contemporary woman. I know women with a great eye for keynote accessories who are going to love this. The mirror is always interacting with its environment, ever-changing according to what clothes you're wearing, the décor of the room, the lighting, the time of day, the weather."
Limited to just 300 pieces, this 37mm yellow gold timepiece stylishly embodies the spirit of the Audemars Piguet woman: modern, effortlessly luxurious and elegant.
