Say ahoy to a nautical classic with the Ulysse Nardin Marine 1846
While Ulysse Nardin is a watchmaking brand that's synonymous with every ocean-related word you can think of, 'clean' and 'classic' are two more adjectives to tack onto that particular moodboard as a new timepiece expands the Swiss maison's collections. Inspired by their marine heritage that has seen naval commanders and merchant captains charting the seas since 1846 with Ulysse Nardin instruments, the new Marine 1846 (so named for obvious reasons) once again spotlights the house's illustrious history and centuries-old horology expertise.
With a template taken from its famed 1996 predecessor, the latest issue from the iconic Marine family is every bit in likeness a vintage Ulysse Nardin piece, framed by a fluted bezel measuring 41mm in diametre and outfitted with the collection's signature typography in Roman indices. A Grand Feu enamel dial sports the requisite small seconds counter, date and power reserve indicator, as well as the historic marine chronometer hands and logo. But beyond its surface appearance, the Marine 1846 is updated with silicium technology for a self-winding UN-118 chronometer movement equipped with a patented inertial balance wheel. Backed by a 60-hour power reserve, an additional quick-set date function allows for a forward and backward correction of the date with ease. And proof positive this one's a great classic? Stamped on its caseback is a scrolling view of the gold medals won by all of its inspirational, historic Ulysse Nardin timepieces. Time to cast-off, mate.
