Richard Mille x Sylvester Stallone: The RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure
Rock and Rambo
There's more than muscle to one of Hollywood's most famous action heroes. Besides being an actor, director, producer, and all-around pop culture icon, Sylvester Stallone is also an artist. A painter, in fact, whose works have even been shown at the Nice Museum of Contemporary Art. As a creator, Stallone's perspective veers towards Russian and German Expressionism, and he professes an admiration for the audacity of Kazimir Malevich and Francis Bacon, the pioneers of the artistic movement whose works echo in the actor's own craft. Naturally, the extension of his creative sensibilities means Stallone is a major collector — of both art and watches, ergo his collaboration with Richard Mille.
Born from the shared passions of both men (that'll be action, adventure, luxury, and refinement, not necessarily in that order), the emblematic timepiece speaks to that insatiable daring that drives one to conquer even the most hostile of natural environments. An adventure watch through and through, the anatomy of the RM 25-01 is much like the movie legend himself, ready for action and imposing in a way that it wouldn't be out of place on the wrist of his Rambo persona. Developed together with Stallone, the watch acts as part timekeeper and part survival tool, apparent instantly from its multi-purpose compass bezel and lid. The bezel is also swappable from a bi-directional one to a compass version, providing an indispensable function for all adventurers that Stallone specially requested to be included.
There's also a torque and power-reserve indicator to view the chronometric performance of the watch, and a unique 24-hour dial enables the user to distinguish between AM and PM in situations where they are deprived of sunlight. Another survival capability is a hermetic compartment that can store up to five water purification tablets, located right above the winding crown.
To effectively support all these functions, the calibre RM25-01 beats within the rugged 50.85mm-sized case, combining a tourbillon with a new and complex 'competition' chronograph — proof of the maison's technicity at its best. The calibre required several months of development and optimisation, and is entirely fashioned out of grade 5 titanium in order to reduce its weight while increasing precision and long-term chronometric reliability. This in turn reduces the movement's inertia, which enables the watch to save up to 50 per cent on energy consumption. Crafted from Carbon TPT (a practically indestructible composite widely utilised by Richard Mille), the RM 25-01 is then finished with a sturdy, ergonomic rubber bracelet in camo — a look befitting its innate spirit of adventure.
So the next time you decide your machismo is in need of some boosting via a sabbatical in the wild, this here is the timepiece exactly to wear on you for that purpose (your Rambo bandanna not compulsory).
The Richard Mille RM 25-01 Tourbillon Adventure Sylvester Stallone is a limited edition of 20 pieces.
