An IWC and Orlebar Brown design collaboration every stylish gent needs to check out
Feeling Nauti
Designing tailored swimwear for the stylish gent is Orlebar Brown's claim to fame. The British label is particularly successful for its bespoke photographic print shorts, offered since 2015 via its Design Your Own service. Collaborations as well have sparked some really cool seasonal collections at Orlebar Brown, and the latest one with IWC is no exception.
Particularly inspired by the IWC Portugieser Yacht Club timepiece, Orlebar Brown draws from a world dominated by clear open skies and deep blue oceans. IWC's Portugieser Yacht Club embraces a contemporary yet timeless nautical spirit, and its crisp colours and refined lines were what informed the aesthetic codes of this exclusive nine-piece capsule collection.
No doubt, it's a small collection but the pieces are very well curated.
Think crisp white linen shirts, soft silk blend polo shirts, light grey Merino wool jumpers... and of course the Orlebar Brown signature tailored fit shorts in a nautical colour palette.
Highlights include a white towelling blazer with dark blue piping, a cotton-silk knitted polo shirt, and even a spiffy tailored fit navy blue peacoat.
However, inspiration moves both ways in this creative collaboration because Orlebar Brown also gave IWC some ideas on a special edition watch. Brand founder Adam Brown is particularly fond of contrasts and well defined lines, hence the contrasting 60-seconds counter on a marine-blue dial, along with judicious touches of red on the chronograph hand and sub-dials.
Another key feature in this model is its strap (blue rubber with textile inlay) which uses a co-branded side-fastener buckle found on all Orlebar Brown swim shorts.
To top it all off, this IWC and Orlebar Brown partnership continues aboard an actual sailboat named the Solaris 55 Double Moon – a fully customised yacht by Solaris Yachts for IWC. This is the very boat you see cutting through the warm summer waters of Porto Rotondo on one of the Bulldog swim shorts.
Which brings us to the best part: The collection's launched for summer, but that doesn't mean you can't wear the pieces all year round here in Singapore – score!
The IWC X Orlebar Brown capsule collection is ideal for that big year-end staycation, or a boat trip out to the nearby private islands with the whole family.
