IWC Schaffhausen dresses up its Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph for the warm weather
There are things inseparable from summer the same way you're hot-glued to your smartphone: Beaches, resort collections, on-fleek bronzy highlight, and Calvin Harris' similarly named electronic dance anthem. Added to that list now is IWC Schaffhausen's new Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph, all decked out for the heat as part of the maison's 'Summer Editions' collections.
At a glance, the watch is deliberately casual with its blue face and white sub-dials at 12 and 6 o'clock — the former showing a combination hour-and-minute counter, and the latter for the small seconds display. Completed with a stainless steel case and matching rhodium-plated hands and appliques, you might even think this colourway is a cliché worn by many a watch during every sail season. Except there's a twist to this tale, and the different ending lies in its summer sartorial options where fabric straps in blue and light gray can be interchanged with the Portugieser's default rubber bracelet.
Besides lending a stylish X-factor, these new straps underscore the sporty look handsomely, and even work well with other IWC icons such as the Pilot's Watches and Portofino timepieces. In fact, it works so well the maison is packaging this summer look as a limited edition seasonal strap collection on its own so you can freely accessorise 'em across the aforementioned watches. This is how you win at the athleisure trend, gents.
The Portugieser Yacht Club Chronograph is available at IWC Schaffhausen boutiques, with the new summer straps available only for a limited time.
