Blancpain dedicates a series of Villeret Metiers d’Arts timepieces to the legendary Four Great Beauties of China
Classical watchmaking takes many forms at the Blancpain manufacture, which specialises in everything from traditional complications to sporty icons to feminine timepieces. The Swiss luxury watch firm also has a firm hand in the world of metiers d'arts. Each year, Blancpain releases new artisanal models but only in very limited quantities.
Richly inspired by cultural icons, practices and legends from all around the world, the Blancpain metiers d'arts collection has touched all corners of the globe and the most recent pieces travel back in time to the legends of ancient China.
Featuring a host of intricate crafts, from champlevé enamel and hand-engraving to Shakudo, marquetry and miniature enamel painting, the new Blancpain Villeret Metiers d'Arts pieces honour the legendary Four Great Beauties of China: Xi Shi, Diao Chan, Wang Zhaojun, and Yang Guifei. Regarded as the most stunning women of their era, they bring us back to some of the most romantic period in Chinese history.
Xi Shi, for instance, lived in the Spring-Autumn period, Wang Zhaojun was from the Western Han dynasty, and Yang Guifei lived during the Tang dynasty. Diao Chan is the only fictional character among the four.
Each of the four watches in this intoxicating capsule collection comes with a 42mm red gold case and is driven by the Blancpain Calibre 13R3A manual-winding movement, which proffers an astounding eight-day power reserve. Visible through a sapphire case back, it has been decorated with finishing that's done as meticulously as the inspiring work applied to the dials.
