Priyageetha Dia

Name: Priyageetha Dia
Date of birth: 8 June 1992
Occupation: Artist
Industry: Fine Art

How she got started: She began her career in the arts as a graphic designer, but she eventually got bored with the routine. She enrolled at LASALLE College of the Arts and diverted her practice towards becoming an artist. And she hasn't stopped making art since.

Notable achievements: In 2017, she covered a staircase at Block 103 Jalan Rajah in gold foil. The controversial "Golden Staircase" propelled a national conversation around the distinctions between public art and vandalism. She followed that up with "Golden Flags" in 2018, where she hung 24K-gold mylar blankets on every floor of the block. The artwork was taken down by the town council but was later exhibited at Art Porters Gallery. In 2019, she received the IMPART Art Awards in the Artist Category alongside fellow artists Yanyun Chen and Kimberly Shen at S.E.A Focus. She also exhibited "Object of Desire", a 24K-gold polyethene bin, at the homegrown art fair.

Something you might not have known about her: She loves Cheetos as well as a good gin and juice.

A quote to sum it all up: "Un-doubt yourself."
