Michaela Therese
Name: Michaela Therese
Date of birth: 3 June 1981
Occupation: Musician
Industry: Music
How she got started: When she was 13, Therese and three friends from her church choir won a national music competition. Fresh out of college and egged on by a friend, Therese sang and played the keyboard at an audition at the now-defunct BarCelona at Robertson Walk. After getting the gig, she didn't look back, immersing herself in music with a host of influences: Jazz, rock, drum 'n' bass, hiphop and soul.
Notable achievements: Therese has collaborated with Brian McKnight, Cosa Nostra, Darker Than Wax and Dream Academy, opened for José James and Carleen Anderson, and successfully sold out two Late Nite concerts at The Esplanade Recital Studio. Her debut album, My Name Is MEEKELLAH, was released in April 2014.
Something you might not have known about her: Currently, the musician is furthering her studies for a Master in Music Therapy.
A quote she lives by: "Know thyself and check thyself. I absolutely believe that being brutally honest with myself about my capacity and potential is the only way to be the best version of me."
