Name: Chelsea Scott-Blackhall
Date of birth: 25 April 1982
Occupation: Founder & CEO of Dzojchen
How she got started: After spending several years flirting with various professional opportunities (assisting photographers, styling, working in an advertising agency), Scott travelled and lived in Hong Kong, Bangkok, Sydney, London, Barcelona, and New York, paying the bills as a model. Armed with insights to all the grit and gloss of the fashion sub-culture, Scott found herself hungry for more. New York, her last stop during fashion week, was where she chose to remain for two years before she returned to Singapore to start her label, Dzojchen. Having never studied fashion, Scott went in blindly and idealistically; she had a voice and the will to use it. Soon, she began designing denim and cold calling factories, attending fabric tradeshows and traipsing cities for her next inspiration.
Notable achievements: Scott considers her Fashion Futures Prize, her participation in the Council of Fashion Designers of America's (CFDA) Fashion Incubator programme, her label's participation in Paris, New York, Berlin, Seoul, and Singapore fashion weeks, as well as collaborations with companies such as Ferrari her greatest achievements.
Something you might not have known: Her childhood dream was to own an island where she could house all the abandoned animals in the world.
A quote she lives by: "It's only forever, not long at all."
