Can your concealer pass the camera test?
How seamless does your concealer look in your office lights or when you're out clubbing? We put Laura Mercier's new Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer to the ultimate test
The perfect concealer not only has to work hard, it has to look 'invisible' while doing so. Call it the MVP of your makeup kit — concealer is truly the unsung hero of facepaint. And finding the right concealer is never an easy task, as getting the right texture, shade match and undertone can be tricky. Laura Mercier's Flawless Fusion Ultra Longwear Concealer not only comes in 12 shades, it is designed to match different skin undertones: It is categorised under Warm, Cool and Neutral shades. We also love the creamy texture that provides medium to full coverage, and can worn without any creasing for up to 12 hours.

The best way to put this concealer to the test? We used it on models Cheyenne Chesney (she uses a mix of shades 2W and 1N) and Ann Lopez (she uses 5N), as they set off to try out the concealer in different lights. From the harsh strobe lights of a club to the soft, diffused light at sunset, see how the new concealer measures up under these conditions and pick up some useful tips along the way.
HOME LIGHTING
If you're applying your makeup in the morning, it's always best if you let some natural light in, as this will ensure you have a better gauge of how your concealer will look in the different lighting you'll encounter throughout your day. Adopt a less is more approach, starting with a thin layer and building up coverage if necessary. To apply the Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer dot it under the eyes or over any discolourations and imperfections, such as marks or spots. The precise tip applicator is perfect for coverage on tiny spots such as around the nose or the eyes. Blend with your fingers — the warmth from your fingertips helps to create that seamless finish.
CLUB LIGHTS
When you're out clubbing, it might be dark, but you still want to make sure that your concealer stays flawless. One way of doing so? Apply any eye makeup — such as eyeshadow, eyeliner and mascara first, before applying any concealer and foundation. This way, you can wipe out any fallen or smudged eye makeup without ruining your base makeup. Make sure that you don't use too much concealer or too light a concealer shade as this will not show up well in photographs.
DAYLIGHT
The great outdoors is a wonderful place to be, but while the sun lights up any photos —nothing beats natural light — it can be a little harsh on your makeup causing it to melt and fade. The new Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer lives up to its name with a long-lasting, crease-proof formula that lasts up to 12 hours. Use the Secret Brightening Powder to perfectly set your concealer and brighten the area, making it last even when you're outdoors.
CAFE LIGHT
The best cafes in Singapore are Insta-worthy because of the great lighting — think big, glass windows that allow lots of natural light in. Make sure your concealer stays flawless in all conditions by matching the colour perfectly. To pick the right concealer for dark circles, look for one that is one to two shades lighter than your skin tone — but never more — to avoid reverse panda eyes. For marks and spots go for a concealer that matches your foundation perfectly for a seamless cover-up. It's also a good idea to blend two or more concealers for the perfect skin match — it's something our makeup artists did for our models.
TWILIGHT
Not just a series of vampire novels, twilight is also the time when the last vestiges of sunlight leaves the sky and blesses us with a soft, diffused glow — it's not called the golden hour for nothing. Great for romantic, moody selfies, it will also show up shadows (and dark circles) more prominently. Always ensure that you have on ample concealer and that your other makeup — think foundation, contour and blush — are well-blended before stepping out for the evening.
FLUORESCENT LIGHT
It may not be the most flattering condition, but it's likely that most of us work under fluorescent lights. It's also lighting that exposes flaws, lines, creases and mismatched base makeup. The best part about the Flawless Fusion Ultra-Longwear Concealer is that while it is lightweight and feels undetectable when worn, it contains a Blurring Powder Blend that diffuses light to smooth the look of fine lines and create a soft-focus effect, so you look your best in meetings, presentations and any in-office Insta-stories.
WARM LIGHTS
Warm, dim lighting may be romantic, but it's not the best place to apply a full face of makeup. Still, such lighting will suffice when you're doing touch-ups. Our tip? Always bring your concealer out on late nights as perspiration and movement (especially if you're out dancing) may cause your makeup to run — making you unintentionally look like a hot mess. To freshen eye makeup, you can wipe off any smudged mascara or liner with tissue and thanks to the precise tip of this concealer, dot it in the inner corners and under the eyes, working a small amount and blending with your finger to brighten up the under eye area instantly.
