Guerlain's exquisite new fragrance Mon Guerlain, has a stunning face, Angelina Jolie, to represent a woman's multi-faceted self
Guerlain has long been known as a luxury perfumery, beginning in France more than 200 years ago. But for its newest scent Mon Guerlain, the house has remained firmly in the present, tapping on none other than the elusive and elegant Angelina Jolie, to be the face of this scent. Mother, humanitarian and starlet, Jolie represents all the different notes of a woman, in the same way that the individual notes of a fragrance come together to create a spectacular, rich and intoxicating scent. Created by Guerlain's master perfumer Thierry Wasser, the new Mon Guerlain is in the words of Jolie, "My invisible tattoo." A fresh Oriental, this has just the right amount of sparkle and warmth to both entrance and delight. Mon Guerlain is rather distinctly, a scent for a woman — specifically a woman with authenticity, heart and drive.

Says Wasser, "Like my predecessors before me, my work is guided by a passion for fine craftsmanship, an admiration for the know-how of artisans, the authenticity of encounters and the sincerity of emotions." For Mon Guerlain, Wasser sourced ingredients from around the world. In the blend that makes up the fragrance are Carla lavender from Provence, Tahitensis vanilla from Papua New Guinea, santalum album sandalwood and Sambac jasmine from south India. He says, "We know every last detail about our jasmine, our sandalwood, our lavender and our vanilla, because we buy our raw materials from men and women we have met and whom I have come to know closely over time."
There's nothing that compares to the warmth of a mother's love. She is both a nurturer as well as the first teacher that a child will ever have. As a mother of six young children, Angelina Jolie remains a role model for women everywhere — especially those who have to balance being a nurturing spirit with their other selves and interests. Here the notes of Carla lavender in the fragrance are highlighted. Adding a dose of freshness, purity and simplicity to the composition, think of this as a enveloping embrace or the whisper of encouragement from a mother to a child.
Jolie is well-known for her work with the United Nations where she has served as the Special Envoy for the High Commissioner for Refugees since 2012. Taking her to war-torn regions like Kabul and Darfur and putting her in contact with people from all walks of life as well as danger, this bold yet selfless aspect of her personality is especially fascinating. Here, the sandalwood note is celebrated in both its raw form and and as a powder. This aromatic wood expresses both the inner riches and the resources possessed by all women. Feminine, strong and mysterious, this also adds a certain grounded earthiness to the scent.
As an actress and filmmaker, Jolie is one of the biggest stars that Hollywood has seen in the past 20 years. Beyond her beauty and charisma, she is celebrated for her fearlessness, passion and intensity. The notes of sambac jasmine in the fragrance, are not just quietly intoxicating — as this flower is gathered at sunrise, it represents the fragility and preciousness of this ingredient. Jasmine is also what ties together the delicious touches of vanilla and the lavender in Mon Guerlain, for the finished product: A scent of unparallelled elegance and character that leaves an indelible trace on the skin.
