For a long time, jewellery had been starkly divided into two broad categories: fine or costume. Usually an investment piece, fine jewellery is crafted from precious metals and gemstones (think: diamonds and sapphires), while costume jewellery is a catchall for lower-priced counterparts. Recently, we’ve witnessed the birth of a jewellery segment that combines the best of both worlds. Dubbed demi-fine jewellery, these pieces are often made with gold of lower carat weights (14 or nine-carat usually) and accompanied by smaller semi-precious gemstones like topaz and opal. In terms of design, demi-fine jewellery also favours a more delicate, minimal look, and feel. Here, we’ve rounded up our favourite pieces from demi-fine jewellery labels.
