VUE Beijing: Take a look inside China's hippest new address

Staid tradition meets wild whimsy

You'll be pleasantly surprised the next time you hit up China's capital. Once known only for its cultural attractions such as Tiananmen Square and the Great Wall of China, Beijing now offers a completely different landscape for tourists. From the super cool 798 Art Zone to the cosy Voyage Coffee (hands down the best cuppa in Beijing) along Beiluoguxiang, the city is rife with a well-dressed elite crowd and stylish hipsters.

It's only befitting then that Beijing also gets a hip new address in VUE, set on the edge of the charming Houhai Lake in a verdant park-like area of the city. The neighbourhood around Houhai is famous for its vibrant café, restaurant, and bar scene, which comes to life when night falls. VUE, which means "view" or "a way to see" in French, aims to present a fresh way of "seeing" hospitality design and experiences. Each bespoke VUE property draws from the culture and heritage of its neighbourhoods, while creating inviting social spaces that is unapologetically modern in its approach. What's more? VUE Beijing has also garnered the title of the first Design Hotels™ property in the capital.

Singapore's very own Ministry of Design, founded by Colin and Joy Seah, is responsible for VUE Beijing's holistic strategy, branding, and all aspects of design and art creation. Expect a building that is distinctively 1950s Chinese on the outside, but wholly sleek on the inside. Its 80 rooms and suites are surrounded by a series of landscaped gardens, and intriguing ornamentation such as gargoyles, latticed window frames, and decorative roof eaves. This haven also offers ample area for relaxation — from a delightful almond croissant at the chic FAB bakery, to cocktails on the rooftop Moon Bar, or a dip in the Jacuzzi pool, you'll be suitably spoilt for choice. Don't forget to look out for the two gigantic wireframe rabbits on the building's roof, as you approach VUE Beijing's signature restaurant, The Pink Rabbit — where a beautiful smorgasbord of Spanish food awaits.

And of course, sink into the best sleep of your life in their eclectic rooms. Modern with a touch of whimsy, those spacious suites with the standalone tubs are our favourite.
