The Capitol Kempinski Hotel officially opens, adding one more five-star luxury hotel to the Singapore scene
Better late than never
A marriage of two colonial landmarks, one could say the arrival of The Capitol Kempinski Hotel is better late than never. After all, the spot has been vacant for a few years, which brought on an onslaught of speculations and hearsays revolving the mysterious said project.
Now, the opulent Switz brand is officially open for business. A major one, if we could say so ourselves. Nestled in the pinnacle of City Hall; where you can find Capitol Piazza and the iconic Capitol Theatre (which rose up to the occasion when Crazy Rich Asian fever hit our shores), the hotel is beautifully restored — almost reminscent of city stalwart Raffles Hotel.
The distinction is pretty obvious once you set foot inside the property. Fusing colonial art deco and Victorian aesthetics, the focus leans towards a grandiose display of luxurious yet understated materials. For instance: travertine limestone columns, high-gloss piano rosewood lacquered finishes and Italian marble floors. All these elements juxtaposed against muted warm tones — specifically a lightly embossed champagne coloured wallpaper. We're also pretty sure dramatic archways and high ceilings make all the difference to elevating a room.
The hotel's eight room categories comprise of living spaces including a swanky free-standing, deep soaking bath, Sonos audio system and much more. While its gastromomical highlights (involving the likes of a 3-Michelin starred chef) have yet to be sorted out, guests can look forward to unwinding at their spa as well as their outdoor saltwater relaxation pool.
Summing up the final totem of our city's luxury hotel openings as of this year, The Capitol Kempinski definitely seems befitting to be Singapore's swan song for 2018.
