KrisFlyer miles expiring? Here's what you can do with them
If you're Singaporean, you're by default, a steadfast follower of our national carrier, Singapore Airlines. Not just because it is our local pride and joy, but rather, a result of decades of exceptional hospitality and quality products and services to depend on whenever we travel. Just ask our foreign friends, they can testify without bias.
While that act of boarding a plane hasn't been a reality for a while now, what we do still have are our KrisFlyer miles. Which now might seem dispensable, seeing how we can't maximise them just to snooze on a flatbed and a better form of airplane grub. Well, instead of doing absolutely nothing, here are other ways you can redeem them instead.
Redeem your miles with CapitaLand
Singapore Airlines and CapitaLand have recently partnered up to offer a new rewards programme. Using your miles, you will be able to convert and redeem an assortment of dining, shopping and lifestyle rewards along with other perks and privileges that will be made available progressively. These rewards include 40 airline partners, 180 non-airline across 780 partner outlets island-wide and 16 participating CapitaLand malls in Singapore along with CapitaLand digital platforms eCapitaMall and Capita3Eats1.
With this new conversion program, you will be able to convert and redeem your miles via the Singapore Airlines and CapitaLand website and app. You will able to receive 7 STAR$® for every mile you convert. A minimum of 3,000 miles will be required for a conversion. A maximum of 30,000 miles can be converted a year.
Shop at the KrisShop
Go on a shopping spree on the KrisShop website and use your miles to pay for it. KrisShop is Singapore Airlines' duty-free shop that offers a wide variety of things from electronics to cosmetics to alcohol. With your miles, you are able to offset the total amount of your purchases or choose to mix miles and cash to pay for your items. Enjoy shopping — practically free, where you can even redeem a pair of AirPods without paying a single cent.
The redemption rate of KrisShop is 125 miles for every $1 spent, with a minimum of 1000 miles per transaction. You can also earn 1.5 miles with every $1 spent using a credit or debit card. Click here to shop.
Redeem a staycation with KrisFlyer vRooms
Since travelling is not really an option these days, a staycation is your next best bet. You can use your miles to pay for your stay at over 350,000 hotels worldwide like Fullerton Hotel Singapore or Mandarin Oriental Singapore.
The current rate of redemption is about 0.8 cents per mile, and minimum usage of 1500 miles per transaction is required. Click here to redeem.
Infinite Journeys with Shangri-La Golden Circle
In 2016, Singapore Airlines and hotel group Shangri-La launched a partnership called Infinite Journeys. With this partnership, you can convert your miles into the Golden Circle Awards points. Using the GC Award Points, you can redeem spa and dining vouchers along with free room nights and upgrades at any Shangri-La hotels, Kerry hotel, Traders hotel or Hotel Jen worldwide.
You will receive 1 GC Award Point for every 12 miles you convert. You will be required to convert a minimum of 20, 000 miles per conversion. Click here to convert.
Esso Singapore Smiles Driver Rewards
If you drive, you can use your miles to offset the petrol cost. You can convert your miles for smile points, where every 6 miles you convert, will earn you 1 smile point. A minimum of 3000 miles is required per transaction, and a maximum of 80 000 can be converted per year.
Pay for your groceries with Passion TapForMore
This would apply to almost everyone. Using your miles, you can pay for all of your groceries whenever you feel like going a little crazy on the seafood section or organic produce. You can convert your miles into TapForMore points and use it to offset your grocery bill.
Receive 1.1 TapForMore Points, which will be credited directly into your PAssion Card account, for every 1 KrisFlyer mile converted. A minimum of 3,000 miles is required per conversion. Click here to convert.
