Airbnb x what3words: A collaboration that transports you to the world's most remote destinations
In good spirit of inclusivity, sustainable tourism and promoting local experiences in remote communities, Airbnb has partnered with geocoding company what3words to bring you unconventional travel experiences — starting in Mongolia. Like a jigsaw puzzle, what3words has divided the world into squares and assigned a unique three-word address (i.e. knob.count.soap) to each square, which easily takes you to obscure listings without a given address. This also works for hosts who uproot their homes from time to time. Forget about geo-tagging these spots on Instagram, they're a feat alone to track down on Google Maps.
In a country where most pasturelands remain untouched and streamlined with open-ended adventures, Mongolia is a picturesque destination boasting of rolling plains, clear rivers and winding valleys. In the world's first Airbnb x what3words listing, guests will spend two nights deep in the Taiga forest in Northern Mongolia immersing themselves in the day-to-day life of the tribe such as herding and milking reindeers as well as whipping up traditional Mongolian dishes.
This unique collaboration aims to support Mongolia's nomadic way of life and empower vagabond and remote communities through home sharing. We can't wait to see what's in store for this meaningful initiative — whether it be for the lesser known parts of the world as well as our future escapades.
This collaboration is part of a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Ministry of Environment and Tourism of Mongolia. Airbnb and what3words are both available for download on iOS and Android.
