#TechThursday: Celebrate Lunar New Year, the Google way
Auspicious and innovative
According to the Chinese zodiac, it’s the year of the rooster — particularly the year of the fire rooster. Google, in an interesting take on balancing tradition and modernity, has turned its attention to the Lunar New Year with a site celebrating the festival. The site revisits six familiar traditions — from spring cleaning to tossing of yusheng — and creates a fun, interactive experience for those who are celebrating this New Year.
The opening video on the site begins with a key tradition: Cleaning your house before the family arrives. Each day, until 11 February, Google will unveil even more traditions, cultivating several surprises for all viewers. Through the site, you can have a go at calligraphy, participate in a digital dragon dance, and release lanterns — marking an auspicious start to your New Year.
