Singapore Airlines’ new app updates: A translation assistant, handy fare deals, and a baggage measurement feature
Better way to fly
Despite all the life-enriching experiences, flying is somewhat of a chore. From booking flights, checking in early, and combating jet lag, we go through all the hassle and hardships just to get to our destinations. But could we do without it? Pretty unlikely.
Homegrown brand Singapore Airlines (SIA) empathises, so they recently announced the launch of their all new mobile app — booted with a handful of updates that could reportedly enhance booking and check-in flows, promising improved transaction times by up to 60%. Here's how.
A smarter search function
One of it, namely the "Capture & Discover" feature, uses image and speech recognition to lead flyers to their destinations. With this, you could get a good scroll of information as well as fare deals.
A real-time translation assistant
You can cut down on Google Translate, and use this in-built function to dissolve any language barriers you might have in cities like Paris and Seoul.
Can't tell if your bags are exceeding the cabin limitations? This might save you from the trouble and unfortunate scenario of having to pay for unforseen check-in.
Real-time information at the ready
Instead of fumbling for your travel documents while you're waiting to board, you can easily view and scrutinise information like boarding gate details, destination weather, currency and baggage-belt information. Currently, this feature will only be available for Singapore-bound flights.
A better platform for in-flight entertainment
While air-borne, the app will also let on extended access to e-Library magazine and newspaper content. There's also a new search function fitted in, so to allow easier content browsing.
The new app will be released on Android platforms by countries progressively between July to September 2019. It will be available for download on the iOS app store in September.
