Samsung Galaxy Fold, S10, S10+ and S10e: Tech specs, release date and prices in Singapore

A galaxy of possibilities

Text: Esther Quek

Since launching the first Galaxy S smartphone 10 years ago, Samsung has time after time, made good on its promises, catering to the needs of its consumers who've always sought to accomplish more while on the go. Having owned five Samsung phones in the last eight years, I can vouch for the South Korean tech giant's innovations, as a first-hand user and objectively, a journalist.

Flying more than 17 hours from Singapore to San Francisco, I finally arrived at Graham Civic Auditorium, a treasured landmark in San Francisco. Honestly, the jet lag was real. Waking up at 4am and wondering if I should head to the Golden Gate Bridge or Fisherman's Wharf to snap touristy photos and capture the Californian sunrise (with my 'older' Samsung Galaxy Note 9) wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Being an all-time Android phone user, my overzealous enthusiasm for a new smartphone launch probably embarrassed my Singaporean counterparts, as I showed my disappointment when I didn't get to sit in the first row (apparently all media were meant to sit upstairs in the auditorium) at the launch seminar of Samsung Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10. (Yes, those are the brand new models!)

While I can rattle on about a decade of Samsung Galaxy's history, here's a round-up of everything you need to know (from its specs to the release date) about the stunning new Samsung Galaxy Fold, S10, S10+ and S10e.

Innovation: Galaxy Fold

Samsung has unveiled the future of smartphones with a whole new mobile category: a new foldable device — Galaxy Fold — the world's first 7.3-inch dynamic AMOLED infinity flex display, which folds into a compact device with a cover display. It offers endless multitasking possibilities, a powerful new way to watch videos, play games, and more — bringing to life new experiences and possibilities, all in one breakthrough device.

Galaxy Fold changes to the screen you need, the moment you need it. Slip it out of your pocket for one-handed calls, texts, and for endless multitasking (you can open up to three active apps simultaneously on the main display so you can surf, text, work, watch and share without losing a beat) and higher quality viewing on its large mobile display for presentations, digital magazines, movies, and AR content.

Galaxy Fold will be available in the second quarter of 2019, and retails from USD $1,980

Galaxy S10, S10+ and S10e

A testament to a decade of innovations, Galaxy S10 is designed for those who want a premium smartphone with powerful performance and sets the stage for the next generation of mobile experiences. For consumers looking for a supercharged device, Galaxy S10+ takes every spec — from display, to camera, to performance — to the next level. Galaxy S10e is built for those who want all the premium essentials in a compact package on a flat screen. Finally, Galaxy S10 5G is created for those who want more of everything and those yearning for fast cellular mobile communications and the most powerful features. Currently, Korean telcos are the only ones who offer 5G commercially. As Singapore only offers 4G, the Galaxy S10 5G will connect to the fastest available networks in the market (4G), and thus will not run as fast as in South Korea.

The next level infinity display is the world's 1st HDR10+ certified screen. The display specifications are as follows: Galaxy S10e (5.8-inch), Galaxy S10 (6.1-inch), Galaxy S10+ (6.4-inch) and the Galaxy S10 5G (6.7-inch). It has blue light reduction, incredible colour accuracy, excellent outdoor visibility even under harsh sunlight and boasts an edge-to-edge and distraction-free display. Display

Fingerprint sensor

To keep your device extremely safe, Galaxy S10 offers the first-ever in-display Ultrasonic Fingerprint Scanner that reads the 3D contours of your physical thumbprint - not a 2D image of it — for improved anti-spoofing. With this next generation biometrics authentication now in front on the display, you don't have to change your grip while trying to unlock your phone.Biometrics

If you didn't 'Gram it, it didn't happen. Catering to the millennial wave where it's essential to capture every precious moment, this smartphone has the right lens for every need. The new Galaxy S10+ has three rear cameras and two front cameras, comes with an intelligent scene optimiser and shot suggestions such as proposing the clearest image, composition recommendations, and photography mode. The ultra-wide angle function is perfect for impressive landscape shots, big panoramas and even fitting the entire extended family into the photo, where stepping back or extending your arm isn't necessary here.

Another notable element of the pro-grade camera is the Super Steady video function. Whether you're dancing in the middle of an amazing concert or trying to record every detail of a bumpy bike ride, both front and rear cameras can shoot in up to UHD quality; and in an industry first, the rear camera gives you the flexibility to record in HDR10+6. The video quality of motion footage is incomparably awe-inspiring, similar to that of an action film (I kid you not). All you need to do is shoot.Camera

With an IP68 resistance to water (the phones can be dropped into freshwater up to 1.5m deep up to 30 minutes), up to 1.5 terabyte of storage, Knox mobile security solution, fastest Gigabit LTE of 2.0 Gbps, and a battery champ of 4,100mAh power, the Samsung Galaxy S10 has outshone its predecessors. The Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered performance allows faster app launches, smarter bixby routines and even diligent adaptive power, such as automatically turning on Bluetooth, prompting to play music, charging your phone in the car when it detects that you are driving.Samsung S10 performance

Wireless power share

A wireless power share has been devised by the South Korean mobile giant. This new fast wireless charging 2.0 icon is located in the swipe-down menu, and makes it possible to easily charge Qi-certified smartphones and even compatible wearable devices. In addition, Galaxy S10 is capable of charging itself and a second device simultaneously via Wireless PowerShare, while connected to a regular charger, enabling you to leave your second charger at home while on a trip.Wireless charging
