Everything you need to know about the Google Pixel 2 XL
Last year, we watched in awe as Google unveiled their first Android smartphone, and now — like everything else — there's a long-awaited sequel to add to our list of smartphone considerations.
Behold, the Google Pixel 2 XL — measuring in a 6-inch display, manufactured by LG. It also comes in a smaller size — the Google Pixel 2, which launched earlier last month, featuring a 5-inch display. The good news is that there isn't actually a better model, as the main difference lies in a preference of size. We say bigger might just be better in this case.
Looks wise, not much has changed with the Pixel 2 XL as compared to its predecessor — it still retains its signature glass-aluminium screen, complete with a fingerprint sensor. Slim, stunning, and fits perfectly in the back of your pocket.
We know the drill when it comes to Androids — they're intuitive, smart, and capable but most of the time, we can't seem to differentiate one from the other. So software specifications aside, here's what you really need to know about this Google game-changer.
Unlimited storage space
P.R.A.I.S.E — and goodbye, annoying "Storage full" prompts. With Google Photos linked to your camera, you can easily save, organise, and stock up as many photos as you want. There's no limit here. Another cool feature? To pull up an ancient photo from a year ago, simply search for it by entering a location or a person's name.
Gateway to Google Lens
They don't call it Google for nothing — Pixel 2 XL users will be the first to experience the super-smart Google Lens. Simply take a photo — for instance, a landmark or building — and it lists the information you need from it. This all-encompassing wisdom also extends to sounds that around you, like the song that's playing in your favourite café, without the need to open up external apps like Shazam or Soundhound.
Google Assistant speaks Singlish
Yes, it's happening. Your handy electronic assistant is now born and bred in Singapore, making it your new best friend. "Where to makan in Bedok?" Boom — there you go. It now understands our colloquially unique accent and grammatical structure. "Confirm plus chop" included.
Going head-on with iPhone's ingenious depth-of-field mode, is Pixel 2 XL's camera. Its Portrait Mode softens any background to make the object of focus (a.k.a yourself) stand out in the crowd. It also boasts a 12-megapixel camera.
So long, headphone jacks
If you hated headphone jacks, Pixel 2 XL has just jumped on the "get rid of them" bandwagon. The phone now comes with wireless headphones to make plugging in more accessible. It also seamlessly connects you to Google Assistant, where all you need is a single tap for easier music selection from your phone.
