Gentle Monster and Huawei’s 2019 collection of smart glasses is equal parts stylish and clever at the same time
Smart glasses are, on paper, a cool concept that could open up our lives to innovation never seen before. But does anyone remember the Google Glass? That seems like a lifetime ago.
We are getting another attempt of smart glasses, from one of Google's most controversial market rivals – Chinese tech giants Huawei, collaborating with the cult Korean eyewear brand Gentle Monster to develop their own set of smart glasses.
If anyone knows eyewear design, it's Gentle Monster. And they are worn by some of the prominent trendsetters including Kendall Jenner and Beyoncé. It's no surprise that the designs are probably the sleekest and most elegant on the market, carrying the same stylish touch characteristic of the cult label from South Korea.
Available in both tinted and clear lenses, the hardware will all be hidden in the temples, right behind your ears and not intrusively on display — unlike previous tech contraptions that aren't exactly the most flattering to parade with on the streets.
These smart glasses will not be overloaded with functions, but instead focusing on key features such as answering phone calls, listening to music, and smart assistance. This is achieved through dual microphones and precise directional speakers located right above your ears, augmented by Huawei's noise reduction technology which guarantees audio clarity. Think of it as a stylish alternative to wireless earphones.
The glasses will also be IP67 dust and water resistant, so feel free to use them in daily routines like working out. The glasses also come with a nifty dedicated eyewear case which allows users to conveniently charge their glasses wirelessly. From what we're seeing so far, it does sound like the perfect pair on paper. It helps, when you're this pretty, after all.
The collection will be available from 6 September 2019 at all Gentle Monster flagship stores.
