Apple Marina Bay Sands, the first Apple store to sit on water, opens 10 September
Dome of the city
Marina Bay's latest glitzy attraction officially opens this Thursday and it happens to be one of Apple's most ambitious endeavours. First off, it sits on water and shaped in an enchanting sphere. One doesn't need to step foot inside to dub it the coolest Apple store in Singapore — and dare we say the world. Simply because this dome is a first-of-its-kind — fully self-supported and all-glass, glinted with 114 pieces to be exact. Completing the structural edifice are ten narrow vertical nullions. And this is just the exterior we're tapping on.
To enter, you start your sojourn inside Marina Bay Sands, at Basement 2. The entry leads you down a long hallway, decked with Apple counters, hanging accessories, and digital screens. Where you're met with a long escalator, only to dramatically ascend into the inside of the captivating sphere. Light leaks through at every turn, hitting the screens and devices seated in uniformity.
Of course, your eyes naturally peer up into the apex of the store — an oculus which is inspired by the Pantheon in Rome. Where rays of light flood in, as the glass interior is sealed with custom baffles, to counter Singapore's climate and lay on a cinematic effect come nighttime. Not forgetting, those signature Apple trees to remind us of the garden city we're lucky to be residing in.
As far as products and services go, they remain deftly consistent to Apple's other stores. That means tech support from Geniuses and a Video Wall where Today at Apple sessions will be conducted. Entrepreneurs, enterprises, and developers who are interested in training and expertise (by invitation only) can look forward to the store's underwater boardroom — located through a non-descript stairway.
B2-06, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands
Doors officially open 10 September, at 10am. Strictly by registration, with no walk-ins accepted on the opening day. For safe distancing purposes, there will be limited capacity in the store. Registrations to enter are now open here.
