Apple's iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition help save lives
For a cause
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)RED Special Edition have arrived. Stunning looks and brilliant functions aside, Apple offers something a little more – the opportunity to contribute to the fight against the spread of HIV and AIDS with every (PRODUCT)RED purchase.
Riding on the spirit of its 11-year partnership with (RED), a major donor to Global Fund HIV/AIDS, Apple has given its latest duo a red glass enclosure, paired with a matching aluminium band and a sleek black front, as opposed to the white front with its previous red versions. A portion of proceeds for all (PRODUCT)RED purchases will go directly to Global Fund HIV/AIDS grants that provide testing, counselling, treatment and prevention programs with a specific focus on eliminating transmission of the virus from mothers to their babies. Since the partnership started in 2006, Apple has donated more than US$160 million to the Global Fund, serving as the organisation's largest corporate donor.
"Today's announcement is further evidence of Apple's leadership in and commitment to the AIDS fight since the beginning of (RED) in 2006," said (RED)'s CEO, Deborah Dugan. "The more than $160 million Apple has donated in the last 11 years today equates to more than 800 million days of lifesaving ARV medication that prevents the transmission of HIV from mothers to their babies."
In case you weren’t already familiar with the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus, both renditions bear improvements on existing features of the iPhone anatomy. Think enhanced Retina HD Displays, more advanced cameras, and the A11 bionic — the most powerful and smartest chip ever in a smartphone. The iPhone 8 Plus will continue to please the photography enthusiast with its dual 12-megapixel camera and Portrait Mode that brings you that studio lighting on-the-go.
Not looking for a new phone? Fret not. Apple has also introduced the new (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio. Crafted from specially tanned and finished European leather, iPhone X users need not look further for the perfect case that marries style with functionality.
We can't think of any better reason why you should get a new iPhone, than being part of a movement to ameliorate one of the world's greatest humanitarian crisis. Go ahead, make a difference.
The (PRODUCT)RED iPhone X Leather Folio, and iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus (PRODUCT)Red Special Edition will be available in 64GB and 256GB models at all Apple Stores from 13 April.
