AirPods Max: Everything you need to know about Apple's latest wireless headphones
Roll out the big guns
If you thought Apple was done with their big releases of the year, you thought wrong. Just in time for Christmas, the tech giant has returned: this time with their latest Airpods Max, the headphones version of their famed wireless earphones. The Max now joins the existing Airpods family, offering the same if not more, in terms of a user's listening experience. The new headphones' design boasts an incredibly high-fidelity audio, Adaptive EQ, Active Noise Cancellation, and spatial audio with its custom acoustic design — all set to promise a mind-blowing listening experience for us all.
Coming after the release of the much-raved iPhone 12 and Apple Watch, the "AirPods are the most popular headphones in the world, beloved for their effortless setup, incredible sound quality, and iconic design. With AirPods Max, we are bringing that magical AirPods experience to a stunning over-ear design with high-fidelity audio," said Greg Joswiak, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
And with every earphone or headphone accessory, it wouldn't be much if not for its sound quality. The Max is built-in with Apple's patented dynamic driver to provide a rich and deep bass, accurate mid-ranges, and a clean, crisp sound all around. Each ear cup houses an Apple-designed H1 chip, a custom acoustic design and advanced software, all to enable the multi-pronged computational audio for a high quality experience.
One of its key features include its ability to utilise Adaptive EQ to help adjust the sound to the fit and seal of the ear cushion, by measuring the exact sound signals being delivered to a user in real time. This is aided by the active noise cancellation, that delivers immersive sound through Active Noise Cancellation, so users can focus on what they are listening to.
But for users who are on the move, the Transparency Mode might work better for you, as you'll be able to stay alert about your surroundings, whilst ensuring a natural audio sound. And to properly get an immersive, all-around-you experience, the Max also promises spatial audio with dynamic head tracking to place sounds virtually anywhere in a space —delivering an almost theatrelike experience.
Custom Acoustic Design
But of course, Apple does not disappoint on what it is best known for either: design. Accounting for both high functionality and aesthetic, every inch of the Airpods Max wireless headphones is built to offer an exceptional acoustic experience for its user. Its breathable knit mesh canopy that spans across the entire headband is designed to redistribute the weight of the accessory evenly, to imbue a sense of lightness and reduce on-head pressure.
With its stainless steel frame that is malleable enough to adapt to a variety of head shapes and sizes, and its easily extendable telescoping headband arms, it ensures a comfort fit for all. Each ear cup can also independently pivot and rotate to fit the variant contours of a user's head. And most importantly, The Digital Crown that is inspired by their very own Apple Watch allows precise volume control, the usual play, pause and skip track functions and of course, the activation of Siri. The AirPods Max is offering a long-lasting battery life of up to 20 hours, and will come with a soft, slim Smart Case to preserve its battery when not in use.
