Raise a glass

It's been a while since we sat by the bar, eyes fixed on the bartender as our elixir of choice was strained into a stalky glass, while rubbing shoulders literally with our neighbour. Back then, there were no safe distancing measures and no temperature checks. And more importantly, our favourite bars were still open for endless happy hours. Given the sudden twist of events of well, a global pandemic, everyone's homebound right about now. Dine-ins are now prohibited during the circuit breaker, launching the entire F&B industry into delivery and takeaway services. But in hardships, come a band of unity. Since the start of April, family-owned distiller William Grant & Sons opened their first-ever virtual bar, dubbed 1887.

1887 Virtual Bar initiative

Hosted on Zoom, 1887 Virtual Bar features live guest shifts with bartenders from our city's favourite drinking holes on rotation. Of course, apart from existing as a creative way for imbibers to reconnect with the romanticism of visiting an actual bar, the cocktails that are showcased on that night will be available on sale through a ticketing platform. In exchange, you get a digital drink coupon to redeem once the bar resumes operations. Every dollar spent will be matched by WG&S to help their bar partners stay open.

1887 Virtual Bar on Buro. Hangouts

This 2 May, the virtual bar will be coming to Buro. Hangouts — and everyone's invited. Helmed by Hendrick's Gin brand ambassador Charmaine Thio and Glenddich brand ambassador Brett Bayly, the masterclass will present three cocktail demonstrations that can be easily made with common ingredients in your own kitchen. To start, a Hendrick's G&T, followed by a Glenfiddich Highball, and lastly, a special session on how to create your own syrups and shrubs using common ingredients found in the kitchen to make a personalised drink.

The other highlight of the night will be a giveaway of three DIY kits comprising of:

1 x Hendrick's Gin glassware
1 x Glenfiddich glassware
1 x miniature Hendrick's Gin
1 x miniature Glenfiddich
An array of mixers, garnishes, and ingredients to make a cocktail

To partcipate in the giveaway, come online, learn how to make the cocktails, and identify the three base ingredients that are needed to make the three cocktails of the night. After the session is over, submit your answers to [email protected] and we will pick three lucky winners to receive the DIY kit.
