When it comes to glitzy edifices for shopping, Singaporeans are indeed spoilt for choice. But while the shiny novel names might steal your gaze, there are those with a longstanding repertoire of luxury and individuality. Palais Renaissance comes up top on that list: with a treasure trove of hidden gems where you can't find an equivalent anywhere else in town. It's the unassuming destination where one can spend the entire day — especially with the imminent Chinese New Year just around the corner. After all, your to-do list sure isn't going to check off itself...

In with the new

L'ecrin Boutique Singapore (#01-10)

Possibly the first custom to abide by whenever we're gearing up for Chinese New Year. It's an opportune time to refresh and update your bag collection — at L'ecrin Boutique Singapore. Where you can find the ultimate status symbol with the boutique stocking up a healthy array of brand new authentic Hermès Birkin bags. Might we also add, the largest selection of Birkin worldwide. There are also other lines like Kelly, Constance, Lindy, Garden Party, Picotin Lock, Bolide, as well as small leather goods and accessories, should you need to jazz up your existing arm candy.

Privé Clinic (#03-02)

A glowing mien is what you need for the new year, not to mention the best form of prep for those CNY selfies. Privé Clinc will make sure of that — with an extensive list of treatments and services — from body sculpting to skin brightening. For radiance and that touch of shine for the festivities, try their laser treatment, Piocsure, which is targeted at all types of pigmentation, including fine lines, wrinkles, and acne scars. With patented PressureWaveTM technology and unique FocusTM Lens Array, the laser treatment stimulates new collagen and elastin production without overheating or damaging the skin.

Sultans of Shave (#02-07)

Gents, it's your time to shine. In fact, grooming shouldn't just be left up to a special occasion — a firm mantra of Sultans of Shave. But in lieu of the festivities, there are three new facials to pore over. Starting from the Classic Facial ($138, 75 mins), a starter treatment perfect for first-time lads popping their treatment cherry. Next up, Enhanced Facial ($168, 90 mins) that helps with brightening and to ease any dehydration of late. For something more lavish, opt for the Sultan's Facial ($258, 105 mins), a customisable treatment based off specific skin concerns. Whether it be clogged pores, oily skin, or fine lines and wrinkles, a specialised facial will be curated after an initial consultation. In this session, facial muscular therapy is applied to assist in microcirculation, lift and aid tension relief in the face — for the ultimate, chiseled visage.

A feast awaits

PS.Cafe (#02-09A)

Yes, the homegrown cafe darling might have expanded furiously over the past few years, but its address at Palais Renaissance holds a special place in our hearts. Against the lush backdrop of high ceilings and a colonial fitting, stepping into PS.Cafe at Palais Renaissance is akin to entering another space, entirely deviated from the makings of a shopping mall. This year's Chinese New Year specials include a decadent Chocolate Orange Caramel Pie, complete with an indulgent scoop of vanilla ice cream to finish.

PS.Cafe's Chocolate Orange Caramel Pie is available from 29 January to 26 February.

Ishinomaki Grill & Sake Bar (#B1-02/03)

Expect only the freshest catch at Ishinomaki. Or rather what they like to call produce from "peak season". Which only bodes good things for your annual yusheng platter. Of course, while you're here, don't miss their wide variety of sake selects — just to make the auspicious season extra special.

Shatoburian (#02-08/09)

Gather around, meat lovers. Sister restaurant of Black Cow, Shatoburian has plenty in store, especially when it comes to prime cuts starting from chateaubriand to ribeye to sirloin, and even misuji (a rare cut located behind the shoulder). All of the aforementioned are featured in their new executive lunch set where a Butcher's selection of the day is served up alongside seasonal grilled vegetables. This yakiniku haven prides themselves on serving A5 Wagyu beef that has been strictly procured from approved auction houses in Japan, so it's safe to say these guys aren't fooling around when it comes to delivering cream of the crop produce. You can even have your meats to go — and even go the extra mile of curating your own Shatoburian meal at home for the upcoming festivities. Apart from the meats, caviar and foie gras from France can also be savoured here, depending on seasonal availability.
