The DBS Marina Regatta is where you need to be this weekend
It is lit
If you're looking for something to get up to this weekend (apart from your usual Netflix routine), how about a weekend by the water, charging through a water obstacle course, lazing on a pop-up beach, while chomping down delectable burgers? The DBS Marina Regatta returns this year, and kicks off today at The Promontory@Marina Bay, armed with a slew of activities that will awake every restless bone in you. We present you the highlights we're gearing up for.
Star in your very own 'Wipeout' challenge
2 June to 4 June
If you thoroughly enjoyed all the satire of the Australian variety show, Wipeout — and believe you have the actual makings of a brave contender, here's your chance. Gather your finest crew or choose to fly solo, and navigate your way through Singapore's largest inflatable water obstacle course, Battle Bay, lined with nine major obstacle challenges. Cash prizes up to $8,000 plus an all-expenses paid trip to Beijing are up for grabs. If you're not keen on getting soaked, cheer from the sidelines as local personalities Nathan Hartono and Jaime Teo go head to head in an exciting showdown.
Pig out at a pop-up beach
2 June to 4 June
Here's one that will interest all inactive folks — how does lounging under colourful umbrellas while sipping on a cocktail sound? Fun fact: The Regatta's Bay Beach is filled with about eight truckloads worth of sand, so you can expect a beachy afternoon minus the crashing waves. Bali beach club Potato Head will be serving up coconut cocktails, beers and their famous Three Buns' gourmet burgers. Other food stalls include French eatery Garçons, The BellJar and Leng Leng ice cream.
Witness a Superbowl light drone momemt
If you remembered seeing the beautiful light drones from Lady Gaga's Halftime Superbowl performance, this is your chance to witness the exact same ones here for the first time in Asia. Equipped with built-in LED lights that are capable of creating over four billion colour combinations, these intel drones are programmed to do a bespoke display, to the tunes of local composer and conductor Eric Wong.
Shake it off in a pre-Ultra party
2 June and 3 June
If you're a big fan of EDM, the DBSMR Ultra Countdown is happening at the Regatta's Play Dome, a nine-metre tall air-conditioned tent. Featuring DJs from this year's Ultra Music Festival — namely Dubvision, Crossnaders, Jade Rasif, Raiden and Moe and Myrne — deck out in your best festival outfits and party the night away. Charges are $15 per entry, inclusive of a free drink.
