ClassPass acquires GuavaPass: An expansion of the fitness membership platform
A fitness force
It's official. Homegrown fitness app GuavaPass has been acquired by NYC-based ClassPass, paving the way for a massive expansion plan for the latter. The news comes as bittersweet; with GuavaPass having recently turned three last year, while growing its portfolio into 12 global markets in Asia and the Middle East.
But with that said; ClassPass' arrival into Singapore last year also meant serving serious competition for the local start-up. The idea for the acquisition was proposed by the folks from GuavaPass themselves, as they felt they could develop and continue working on their original mission by joining the ClassPass family. Either way, if this means more attractive fitness options for our everyday workouts, we're on board.
With GuavaPass onboard, ClassPass is now in more than 80 markets across 11 conutries, with promising plans to expand to 50 new cities this year. Meanwhile, GuavaPass will cease all operations in markets where ClassPass is available.
All GuavaPass members will have their plans transferred over to ClassPass this 14 January.
