Porsche's brand-new Cayenne Turbo could just change your mind about SUVs
When most people think of SUVs, flashing stills of Dad-bods, golf clubs, and a handful of rowdy kids are immediately prompted. The iconic vehicle has been tied so much to the star feature of practicality that nothing else is usually accentuated or raved about. In other words, its biggest accomplishment is being a fam-favourite.
That was before the all-new third generation of Porsche Cayenne came into the picture. Repping the attractive buzzwords of elegance, sporty and expressive — the Cayenne Turbo definitely isn't the typical "people-mover" you had in mind.
First impressions: with the help of LED headlights, a sculpted car body is revealed, working seamlessly with the lighting technology to enhance the sportscar elements of the exterior. Comprising of a 4.0 litre V8 bi-turbo engine with 770Nm of torque, the SUV's brand new gearbox also allows the driver to accelerate from 0-100km in no less than 3.9 seconds. Cruising in your family car? No trouble — you can still live out your race car driver fantasies.
The reboot of the Cayenne offers improved driving performance via the power of technology. For starters, a new braking system is implemented — featuring discs coated with a sturdy tungsten carbide material alongside specially developed brake pads. Next up: an adaptive roof spoiler, a new feature introduced in the series of Porsche's SUVs. It functions as an air brake, which smartly adjusts its motion in accordance to the speed of the car. For instance: the flap will lower itself to reduce resistance if the car is running above 250km/h and rises again if the speed starts to drop. This lowers the risk of hard braking and ensures a safe braking distance especially on traffic-heavy mornings.
Inside the car, luxe touches of the prestigious brand can also be easily identifed. Think broad dashboards, plush upholstery, and touch-sensitive functions. The cockpit has been specially altered to the advantage of the driver — starting from a multi-functional sports steering wheel to a smart gear selector. In the case of the Cayenne Turbo, you can drive an SUV and still be a rockstar.
