Ferrari unveils its most aerodynamically efficient Spider to date
If you thought Ferrari would be hardpressed to top the Ferrari 488 GTB, think again. The Italian luxury automobile brand has unveiled the Ferrari 488 Spider, a sleek ride that gives you the option to cruise top-down with a retractable hard-top. Heading to the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show? You'll get a chance to view the model upclose.
Pictured here in the new Blu Corsa livery, the retractable hard-top has the ability to obliterate more wind and noise than a traditional soft-top. The only sound it doesn't blot out is the inviting purr of the engine – the unmistakable hallmark of the Italian supercar.
The Ferrari 488 Spider also comes with a mid-rear turbo-charged V8 that propels the car from 0 to 100km/h in three seconds flat. Most notably, the engine manages to transcend turbo lag by delivering increasing levels of power across the rev range.
A new spaceframe chassis fashioned from 11 different aluminium alloys ensures the same torsional rigidity and beam stiffness you'll find in the 488 GTB coupé. New aerodynamic solutions such as a blown spoiler and underbody vortex generator help to trim off unwanted drag from the Spider, making it Ferrari's most aerodynamically efficient spider to date.
