Nike x UNDERCOVER's Jun Takahashi: A Gyakusou running collection of tri-colour and fluid silhouettes
Style on the run
Working up a sweat has never looked cooler before UNDERCOVER's Jun Takahashi joined hands with sportswear giant Nike. His latest work features a collaboration that expresses boundless creativity, whilst strapped in the well-loved Japanese designer's moodboard for previous Gyakusou collections.
The fluid, careless movement of running can be defined in many ways. Some use it as a form of adrenaline rush, catharthic release, and well, health. But Takahashi's reason for picking up speed, is in fact, a meditative exercise that allows him to contemplate ideas for his next collection.
Earthy hues are still an important mainstay for the range. His intent is to blend high-performance wear with today's urban landscape. The collection also weaves in Nike's latest running apparel advances like body-map engineering and garments that will enable packability for one's voyages.
Some of the pieces include the Transform JKT, which unzips the front and cleverly stuffs the top part of the jacket into its pocket; carrying a lightweight woven outer to protect runners from harsh weather condictions like wind and rain. There's also a lightweight alternative, which employs skin temperature maps and laser cut holes for the best breathability when the body's in full motion.
Not forgetting, the stunning (updated) Nike Pegasus Turbo — laced in a unique toggle pattern as well as sporting Gyakusou branding on the toes. We especially love the traction-focused rubber outsole that completes the entire Jun Takahashi aesthetic that most #hypebeasts would snap up in a heartbeat.
The Nike Gyakusou SP19 collection releases globally on February 28.
