Lululemon's new Take Form yoga mat is equipped with an innovative 3D design for perfecting yoga poses
A magic... mat?
Much as we have developed a love for yoga home workouts since the circuit breaker, it's undeniable that learning yoga through our computer screens does come with a couple of drawbacks — namely with the lack of a trained instructor to correct our alignment and poses in real time. Thankfully, cult-favourite athleisure giant Lululemon has devised an innovative form of yoga mat with an integrated 3D design. (Unfortunately, this doesn't mean being virtually teleported to the mountaintops while namaste-ing.)
Introducing the Take Form mat, featuring ripples sprawled across the mat in the shapes of circle outlines and overlays. It's not for decorative purposes, but rather serves up practical use — as the ripples are actually alignment markers to help guide yogis as to how to accurately position their limbs during yoga poses.
And what makes this yoga mat different from other yoga alignment mats? It's that the mat's indicators aren't just visual cues for you to gauge and follow, but the ripples on the mat are ridged for users to actually feel them when practising. Following the way the ripples touch your arms and legs to prompt you into the correct alignments, overtime this will become muscle memory to naturally correct your positioning and form.
While the inspiration for the Take Form mat might have arose because of home workouts in lockdown, we can all agree that this innovation might change the way we do yoga — period.
