Witness The Macallan and Sir Peter Blake's one-of-a-kind collaboration first hand at Raffles Hotel Singapore
Remember those days when we could dine in at restaurants to celebrate a special occasion such as a birthday or an anniversary, and popping a pristine bottle of whisky for the entire table? Well, somehow The Macallan has managed to make the drink appreciation even more special with an art collaboration. Yes, even in these unprecedented times.
The Scottish brand has revealed the Anecdotes of Ages Collection in Singapore, a whisky and art collab with renowned British pop artist Sir Peter Blake that features uniquely designed labels across 13 bottles of 1967 whisky. A single malt Scotch that wasn't selected by chance. Matured for more than 50 years, the whisky was chosen to represent the year that Sir Peter Blake's signature collages transcended from art into popular culture.
Each individual bottle is adorned with an original Sir Peter Blake collage art on the label. "Each collage in the Anecdotes of Ages Collection is inspired by The Macallan's history and heritage, one that respects time and craft, two essential components of my own creative process. I meticulously worked on each collage, pulling from The Macallan's rich history to complete a collection that is a celebration of art and whisky," said Sir Peter Blake.
To best showcase the creative journey of this midas partnership, the Sir Peter Blake: The Macallan Anecdotes of Ages Collection Gallery will be held at The Macallan at Raffles Hotel Singapore, from 29 June to 9 July. The public exhibition will lead guests on a self-exploration journey through his studio, which will dive deep into the various art installations that breathe life into the different stories that inspired the entire collection.
Concealed behind a hidden wall, your entrance to the continuation of the gallery is met with "fields" of barley, with its scent wafting through the rest of the exhibition. Here, you will be led through the story, history, and creative process behind all 13 bottles. Make sure to have your smartphone juiced up and ready in hand, as you'll need it to scan more interesting facts about the Scottish distillery. Of course, photo ops are prevalent at every corner in this hideaway.
As a pioneer in the pop art scene, Sir Peter Blake is known for his distinct collages that comprise of images from popular culture. His diverse styles from colourful lettering to likeness drawing to his signature crowd work have inspired the fashion, music, and art movements for decades.
As a way to support the arts, The Macallan auctioned one of these rare Anecdotes of Ages bottles in March 2021 through Sotheby's for US$437,500. The proceeds made their way to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to advance efforts to increase free access and develop engagement with a variety of audiences.
While the 13th original bottle will remain tucked away in The Macallan archives, the other 12 will be flown across the world and showcased in various cities. Singapore will be the home for one of the 13 originals, Anecdotes of Ages Collection: The Old Farm during the span of the exhibition.
What's up for grabs? A limited-edition 1967 whisky with a duplicate label, Anecdotes of Ages Collection: Down to Work Limited Edition, will be available for purchase for $89,900 at The Macallan at Raffles Hotel Singapore and selected retailers.
If that's too much of an investment for you, another single malt scotch – An Estate, A Community and A Distillery, that is displayed in a custom box inspired by the artwork of Sir Peter Blake will be up for grabs at $1,350.
