Violet Oon Singapore Ion Orchard: Afternoon tea and delicious treats to take home from an all-new retail section
Live a little
Visiting Violet Oon Singapore is always an indulgent affair — rich creamy broths, heady mix of meats and Peranakan kuehs. A place that isn't afraid of being too heartening — with the same comforting ethos found in its afternoon high tea at Ion Orchard.
Its Singapore High Tea set serves up a selection of savoury and sweet treats that will sate any 3pm cravings. First off, housemade fluffy scones of original as well as a gula melaka drizzle; which are best dipped in pineapple jam and clotted cream. Tip of the iceberg, we later discovered.
A three-tiered platter follows after; laying out a selection of savoury and sweet bites like kuay pie tee, coronation chicken spiked with raisins on a crispy wanton skin, kueh ko sui, kueh dah dah, and many more. Our favourites from the lot? Hands down, that spiced coconut otak atop a Belgium endive and a bubu cha cha panna cotta, concocted with silken texture and piquant flavours.
The treats don't just end at high tea; the retail section at the Ion Orchard outlet should be proof of that. "Our flagship shows a new iteration of the Singapore food story. This is also the first time our brand is offering an exclusive retail selection that has been curated from a collection of original recipes. This represents an important milestone for our company as we continue to innovate our culinary concepts and flavours. The expansion of the Violet Oon Singapore group builds on our culinary history and is aligned with our vision to bringing the best of Singapore's cuisine to the world," says Manoj M Murjani, chairman of Violet Oon Singapore.
Curated from archives of traditional and classic recipes, the premium food merchandise make perfect (uniquely Singaporean) gifts or even something to snack on at home. We're talking Violet Oon's very own rendition of pineapple tart of a buttery pastry and Peranakan-style jam. Also, make room for VO's Sugee Financier Gift Box, decked with assorted toppings like dried candied orange, chopped pistachio and toasted almond silvers.
Other instant hits include coconut candy, rum balls and an assortment of cookies of peanut, cashew and gula melaka coconut crunch. Bonus: they're all encased in stunning boxes featuring Singapore's signature peranakan tiles. Add to that? A first ever cake counter displaying freshly baked goods, including flavours like pandan gula melaka, black forest and horlicks. So if you're all out of gift ideas, there's one and a couple more propped up here.
The Singapore High Tea Set serves two and is available at $56++.
