Singapore Food Festival 2018: 5 enticing reasons to save stomach room this July
If there's one month to hold that diet plan, it has to be July. Our city's most celebrated event (we might be slightly biased), Singapore Food Festival 2018, is back with a smorgasbord of restaurant and cafe activations, presented with a local twist. This year marks the 25th year of the festival, where Singapore's affluent food culture is proudly put on display.
From 13 to 29 July, a line-up of tantalising events will be dotted around the island at your disposal. From food film screenings to a localised menu from McDonald's, here's what we're lusting after this month.
Where: Empress Lawn
When: 13 July and 14 July
If variety is what you need in a meal, head on down to STREAT. The two-day outdoor event sees a myriad of chefs and restaurants putting their skills on display in their individual stalls. You'll get your fishball noodle fix while enjoying a sumptuous plate from Venue by Sebastian. Best of both worlds, indeed.
MCDONALD'S LOVES LOCAL
Where: All McDonald's outlets
When: July onwards
How can we forget the Nasi Lemak burger that took our city by storm? It was flavourful, it was authentic, it was pretty amazing. And now in lieu of the popular limited-edition, McDonald's will be putting up more localised fast foods that we can #hype about all over again.
PARK BENCH DELI X EASTERN DELIGHTS
Where: Park Bench Deli
When: 15 July and 29 July
Park Bench Deli has been on a roll lately, and we're not complaining. This time, the sandwich maven joins hands with hawkers from Roast Paradise and the family behind Rumah Makan Minang for a delicious east-meets-west collab. Imagine this: Chinese roast pork enveloped in a French loaf and slow-cooked beef curry in a pillowy burger... yes and yes.
A BEACHFRONT FEAST
Where: Siloso Beach, Sentosa
When: 13 July-15 July, 20 July-22 July, 27 July-29 July
A barbecue feast by the calming waves of the ocean sounds just like the perfect weekend. In this case, you'll be spoilt for choice with more than 20 F&B kiosks serving up local delights entirely al fresco. What to bring? Your sunnies, sunscreen, and an empty stomach.
Where: The Screening Room
When: 13 July to 29 July
Film buffs, you can sit back and do your thing while tucking into a glorious menu of local dishes of crispy soft shell with chilli crab ragu and hawker-style BBQ chicken wings. Plot twist: the movies screening here are coincidentally also about food. Clearly, this is a glutton's only event.
